A inserção social do negro: limites e possibilidades por meio da universidade

Abstract

This study aims to be an graduating instrument of evaluation through the component of course conclusion II, aspiring to analyze how the university has been contributing in the process of social insertion of the black youth. The study was carried out at the Federal University of Pampa - São Borja Campus, and the social approach was with the students who compose the Niara group, a collective of dissemination of the black culture in the university. The research aimed to verify the role of the university in the insertion and social development of the black students who make up the student body of the university. The research was structured through the dialectical materialism method which permits an analysation of reality providing the expected results. A qualitative research was carried out with the application of a focus group, and content analysis was the base for the composition of the results chapter. From this analysis it was possible to uncover that there were relevant changes in the social context of the black students after their insertion in the university. It‟s perceivable that the profile of the student body of the Federal University of Pampa is of young adults who come from different regions, cities and states from the same social context in which the Brazilian black population predominates. It was possible to comprehend that the insertion in the university allowed the students to participate in spaces that they were not represented in before, as well as enabled the growth of the youth as social people, collaborating in their ethnic and political identity and the manner in which they respond before their social context. Thus, the university space is of great relevance for the visibility and representation of black youth in society.
