Explorando a perícia criminal através das lentes de Sherlock Holmes: uma análise literária

Abstract

The present study demonstrates how expertise is evidence prepared by specialists, with the aim of assisting the judge in the decision-making process and in the police investigation. It has the crucial role of investigating and providing a basis for the evidence presented in the judicial process, helping to solve various types of crimes, including those against fatal victims and the environment. Over time, forensic methods have evolved, both in knowledge and literature, to adapt to the needs of society and the growing demand for solving crimes. In view of this, investigating the principles of modern criminal expertise, using the Sherlock Holmes books as the main basis, becomes an interesting and relevant topic. The objective is to analyze how Sherlock Holmes’ “Study in Red” is present in criminal sciences to this day and how it contributed to modern criminology. The deductive method was chosen to develop the research, starting from the analysis of the concepts of criminal expertise and criminology to understand their practical application in the investigation and resolution of crimes, under the lens of Holmes' book. The technical procedures used in the research were bibliographic and documentary. In the bibliographical research, materials such as books, articles, court decisions, various publications and other informative materials related to the topic were consulted. In the documentary research, consultations were carried out on legal studies, legislation and doctrines, using the internet and other tools to obtain answers within the research objectives. The study presents how criminal expertise was portrayed through the vision of Sherlock Holmes and how it evolved over time. This study is an important contribution to the understanding of forensic practices and their application in solving crimes, promoting a more effective judicial system and a safer society.
