Importância do bem estar animal no ambiente de criação de suínos

Abstract

The increasing of the human population over the past decades has been a major concern in meeting the increasing food demand. The ancient extensive creations began to intensify and have as main characteristic the accommodation of large numbers of animals in a confined space, which caused problems in relation to comfort and pet-environment interaction, and secondly a consumer market that wants to eat meat coming of animals that are bred, handled and slaughtered in systems that promote wellness, defined as "ethical quality" in addition to the production system is sustainable under environmentally correct conditions. Advances in breeding, nutrition and reproduction have reached a high level, the focus at the moment is to unite these factors to the welfare of animals on the premises, after all, there is a very strong link between productivity, animal welfare and living ambience. Animal welfare is a state of harmony between the animal and its environment, characterized by high and great quality of life of the animal physical and physiological conditions. Compromising the welfare of the animals after literature review leads to numerous problems such as growth retardation, delayed the start of play which leads to inadequate productivity. Filling out a questionnaire for and small producers from three different farms was conducted in Bento Gonçalves and Dois Lajeados in order to obtain information to assess the knowledge of the respondents and then evaluate what degree of intensity of use of the Welfare animal in a point of Serra Gaúcha, Rio Grande do Sul, where there is great intensification of pig farming, contributing to major advances in Brazilian industry.
