Violência institucional contra crianças e adolescentes em situação de acolhimento

Abstract

This Graduation Paper aims to analyze the characteristics of situations of violence against children and adolescents in institutional institutions in Brazil, in order to sensitize professionals to the need to rethink practices that contribute to the manifestation of institutional violence. In this sense, three specific objectives were developed, namely: to identify the types of violence that children and adolescents suffer in institutions. The topic is still little debated in society, but it is present in many Brazilian institutions, and they end up being silenced by many of them. The research, based on the critical dialectical method, is characterized by being exploratory and qualitative, using the technique of bibliographic research to search for the necessary information to answer the objectives of the study. It was observed that there is a need for the theme addressed to gain greater visibility, both by society and by the State itself. Shelter institutions need to be seen as spaces of protection and welcoming, and not of violence in their different forms, and professionals need to be trained to be able to work in these spaces in a qualified way. The State needs to take a stand in the face of these situations of violence, it is necessary to create mechanisms, strategies that break with violence within the shelter institutions, because these are subjects who are already vulnerable and weakened, in the face of the violations of rights that are part of their lives. In foster care institutions, violence manifests itself in its different forms, such as symbolic violence, which is expressed through a disciplinary system, prejudice against institutionalized children and adolescents, negligence, etc. Violence against this segment is committed by professionals in general, that is, it does not depend on the position they hold in these spaces. the organs and the Public figures also commit such violence, based on authoritarian practices, as a form of control over the subjects. Regarding the motivations that lead violence to materialize within the shelter institutions, the coercive practices that are related to authoritarianism and power relations, the moralization of the expressions of the social question, which is expressed from common sense and ends up reinforcing the stigmatization and revictimization of individuals, stand out. In addition, the Lack of training of professionals to work with children and adolescents in vulnerable situations contributes to violence being practiced in the institutional environment.
