Abstract

This work has the general objective of verifying the use of variants of the 2nd person singular pronouns tu and você, in the subject position, in Bagé-RS speech. Furthermore, we intend to verify whether there is an influence of the external factors age, sex, education, as well as the formal versus informal context regarding the use of these pronouns and investigate, based on the level of sociolinguistic awareness of the speakers, what the reasons may be that lead them to use these pronouns. to choose a certain pronoun. To this end, based on the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Sociolinguistics (LABOV, 1972), we carried out a survey with eight informants, four men and four women, born in the municipality, stratified as follows: two age groups (18-30 years old and 50-65 years old) and two levels of education (Complete Elementary Education and Higher Education (completed or ongoing). Among the results, we found that the social variables adopted, in this research, did not prove to be relevant, as the pronoun tu was predominant in the speech of all informants However, we found that there is a subjective norm among them that considers the pronoun you as the one to be used in more formal moments.
