Aumento das plataformas continentais no Atlântico Sul: um estudo introdutório sobre a expansão territorial de Brasil, Argentina e Uruguai (2004-2020)

Abstract

The South Atlantic is historically an area of extremely geopolitical importance. Geopolitically important. The South American riverside countries that bathe on its coastline by the South Atlantic have many opportunities that the Ocean offers, but it is underground that the main current interests of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina are found. With the increase of the respective continental platforms, these countries intend to increase their capacities and expand their economic exploration in the South Atlantic. In this work, we see how each country sees its continental shelf, its access to the seas and its opportunities. Seeking to answer the question: "What are the main motivations for the increase in the continental shelves of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay in the 21st century?" themselves as mediators to mediate disputes. Thus, the main objective of this research is to analyse the motivations for the increase in the continental shelves of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay in the 21st century. The hypothesis is that these countries have constraints that force them to expand their sovereignty, both in quality and quantity of devices, which leads them to look for more opportunities in the sea while observing and protecting it. The development of the work will be approached from the qualitative protocol, theoretical-conceptual considerations of international relations will be analysed and the standardization of agreements that motivated the countries involved in the object of study, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, to claim the expansion of the continental shelf, in order to remark its territorial delimitation under the sea. At the end, then, it is recognized which are the interests and how the actions to expand the continental shelves in the South Atlantic are justified.
