Investimentos ESG e organizações sustentáves: uma análise sobre as convergências

Abstract

The process of development of society involves, among other things, the evolution of production processes. In this point, the discussion on sustainable development increases the importance of observing and modifying the relationships between companies, the economy, society, and the environment. Recently, the importance of financial investments as a guideline for this change has become evident, which is represented by ESG Investments. If, on the one hand, sustainable development wants organizations to become sustainable, ESG Investments want to direct their resources to these companies. The question that guides this work, in this context, is: do the characteristics of sustainable organizations coincide with the selection criteria for ESG investments? The general objective of the work is then to comparatively analyze whether the criteria for selecting ESG investments coincide with the characteristics of sustainable organizations. The exploratory method is used due to the scarcity of research carried out on the subject and available so far. The information was obtained via bibliographic and documentary research in scientific articles, books, dissertations, theses, but also on stock exchange websites, the researched investment fund, and news broadcast by the media. For analysis, a comparative method was used. After addressing the characteristics of sustainable organizations and ESG investment selection criteria, it was observed that there is a convergence between the two in environmental, social, and governance factors. Workers' rights, in matters relating to society and suppliers, and in corporate governance factors, there are convergences in the structure of the board, good management, and accounting practices, as well as good conduct. In the scope of this research, it can be said that ESG Investments seek to allocate resources to Sustainable Organizations.
