O conceito de instituição nas diferentes abordagens da economia institucional

Abstract

This work aims to understand what institutions are in different institutionalist approaches and if there is a consensus among the authors about the concept of institutions. In order for the objectives to be achieved, a contextualization of the approaches was carried out, expressing their origins and identifying the direction of each one. In the introduction is the synthesis of the work, together with the proposed objectives and the relevance that the study owns for the Institutional Economics research program. In the second chapter, the first section describes the origins of Institutional Economics, through the emergence of Old Institutionalism and the main contributions by Thorstein Veblen, John Rogers Commons and Wesley Clair Mitchell. The second section features authors Ronald Coase, Oliver Williamson and Douglass North, evidencing the New Institutional Economy from the analysis of transactions and their role in economic development. the third section describes Evolutionary Institutionalism, referenced by authors Geoffrey Hodgson, William Dugger, Malcolm Rutherford and Warren Samuels. That approach contemplates central elements present in the Old Institutionalism led by Thorstein Veblen, and reflects the influence exerted by the current neoschumpeterian by approaching an evolutionary current. The third chapter addresses the concept of institution in the different approaches institutional, while the fourth chapter is intended to understand if there is or no, a consensus of the authors regarding the concept of institution. After, there are the final considerations. The multiplicity of elements present in the framework institutionalist and the search for the attribution of a common sense among the authors, is what makes it difficult to understand the analysis of economic theory on the institutionalist. Since it is these same pluralities that amplify and dynamize the Institutional Economy.
