Mulheres pecuaristas e a decisão gerencial em Dom Pedrito/RS

Abstract

Agribusiness has a significant importance for the economy of Brazil, both in the context of agriculture and cattle raising, as well as on issues of social matters. Starting from this point cattle raising is one of the most developed activities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and also in Dom Pedrito due to its historical monitoring of socioeconomic and cultural formation. In this context the participation of women in rural activities is highlighted, although they have always worked with rural activities, however the proximity to the domestic labor used to keep them in invisible. Thus, the emphasis is to discuss issues relating to managerial decisions made by women farmers, with the aim of characterizing the managerial decisions of women farmers who live in Dom Pedrito/RS. This assignment is characterized by being a multiple case study in which more than one individual was involved as the object of research. It is an applied and exploratory research which presents qualitative and quantitative aspects. The research group was identified through the database of the Veterinary Inspectorate Department of Dom Pedrito and potential indications, which from a total of 132 farmers, only 32 farmers were found ahead of cattle raising production, or participate in the management of the activity, and 26 of these live in the quoted city. The identification of the interviewees didn’t use statistical analysis, we counted on the cooperation of the possible interviewees to participate or not in the study which had a final number of 20 interviews, and the collection was made by a structured interview and analysis and systematization of data performed using Microsoft Excel. Production decisions on the properties and cattle raising business in which women are ahead or participate in the management, 65% are made jointly, participating siblings, outside directors, husband, parents and children, 30% only the woman interviewed, and only the husband rated 5 %. That helped identifying the leading interactive practiced mostly by women, as indicated by some authors. Each specific objective was considered particularly what allowed the achievement of the overall goal and yet we could highlight the potential of women farmer in management activity. The aspects of the activity linked to the female social characteristics have acted as an important factor in the management of animal raising. It also stands to serve as input for further research, and also encourages other researchers and institutions to give a special attention to these women who have been struggling for their insertion in the labor market.
