Uni duni tê, o que quero fazer? A escolha, a permanência e o entrincheiramento na carreira de estudantes universitários

Abstract

This paper analyzes the ties of entrenchment and commitment to the chosen course among undergraduate students. The term entrenchment translates the idea of being stuck in an organization or career for not believing that there are other possibilities that come to fulfill their expectations and / or needs. The individual is identified as entrenched at the moment of analyzing his or her permanence in the company or career due to the need for status, social position, fear of exchange, money or any other indicator other than for pleasure, motivation and satisfaction with the role played by him . This study aimed to identify the existence of entrenchment of university students at the Federal University of Pampa - UNIPAMPA in Santana do Livramento, Rio Grande do Sul. A study with a quantitative approach and having an exploratory descriptive character involved the application of a questionnaire online and face-to-face during the months of September and October 2017 with a Likert scale and open questions to 273 university students from five different courses: Administration, Public Management, International Relations, Law and Economics. All students with entry year and different semesters. The research questioned these students if they were attending their courses being their first option of graduation at the time of choosing the career or not and, if not, what would be their first option course. In addition to arguing why they would be taking a different course and why they decided to remain in the undergraduate program. These questions were asked to examine the possibility of entrenchment and what their degrees of existence were among students. As main results were found levels of entrenchment in all courses being the highest concentration in the courses of Administration and International Relations. The entrenchment in these courses was evidenced due to the limitation of alternatives and the investments already made in the career.
