Abstract

The present research work aims to analyze the manifestations about the issues of gender identity and sexual orientation in the work The boy in a dress, by David Wallians, as well as to analyze other related elements also present in the narrative, which are and are directly linked to the central theme, such as prejudice, friendship and abandonment. This analysis will initially address the importance of literature for society, and what influence it had on it, based on the reflections of different theorists. It will also analyze the structure, characters, textual and extratextual elements present, which attest to the relevance of the theme for children's and youth literature. The results found in the analysis reveal that the work is valid and successful in its attempt to lead the reader to the reflection and analysis of his own prejudices, although it demonstrates a certain degree of prejudice on the main theme.
