O tratamento do gênero feminino nas produções fílmicas de Martin Scorsese: análise de taxi driver e O lobo de Wall Street

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the treatment of the female genre in the film productions of the North American director Martin Scorsese, investigate its possible changes, and propose a reflection on issues of gender and male chauvinism in the film industry. For that, we used as a corpus the films Taxi Driver (1976) and The Wall Street Wolf (2013), for being considered in this work the best representatives of the decades of their productions and for covering the relevant gender issues related to the research. In the theoretical revision, concepts of Kaplan, Mulvey, Butler, Stearns, Lerner, Turner, Aumont, Berger and Luckmann were used. The films were analyzed by the method proposed by Diane Rose, exclusive for audiovisual products, and the concepts of Vanoye & Goliot-Létê (1994) film interpretation and analysis, also using as a tool the application of the Bechdel test (1985). Among our findings at the end of the study, we showed that there were changes in the treatment of the female gender in Martin Scorsese's film productions, but not as expected by feminist movements and authors studied in this work.
