Desenvolvimento socioeconômico do município de Quaraí-RS: uma análise para o período de 2005 a 2016

Abstract

After decades of discussion about the concept of development and the one undergoing metamorphoses, there are two streams for its definition, and indicators for it to be measured. The idea of social development emerges as of 1960 and contributes to the strengthening of the idea of quality of life, due to economic growth, associated with one of the conceptual development chains. Achieving development has been the goal of contemporary societies. Thinking specifically about the object of study, Quaraí is located in the extreme South of the state of Rio Grande do Sul being part of the COREDE of the West Frontier. Like other municipalities in the region, it comes from a history of stagnant economy, which has been the target of public policies that overcome the problem. The objective of this monograph is to analyze the social and economic development in the municipality of Quaraí from 2005 to 2016, in order to understand the socioeconomic changes, the Firjan Municipal Development Index (IFDM) was analyzed along with its three components : Employment & Income, Health and Education, as well as the municipality, also analyzed the behavior of COREDE Fronteira Oeste and carried out a comparison with the participating municipalities. The GDP, GDP per capita and Gini indexes were used to analyze the municipality of Quaraí and the municipalities belonging to COREDE Fronteira Oeste, in order to verify the socioeconomic differences of each municipality. Primary data were used with information from the municipality. According to data from the IFDM it is possible to affirm that the highest average occurred in 2016, in which the health area, obtained an index of 0.8740 being classified as a municipality with high development, followed by the education component that in the same year obtained an index of 0.8497, classified as a municipality with high development, however, the Employment & income component, throughout its historical series was classified as a municipality with regular development. Compared with the municipalities of Corede Fronteira Oeste, Alegrete is the largest carrier of IFDM, in the ranking of the municipalities of Corede, Quaraí is in 6th position, and the lowest index of IFDM, holds the municipality of Maçambara. Data were collected from the following sources: IBGE, FEE, Firjan. The analysis was performed from descriptive statistics, comparing the reality of the municipality with the average performance of its insertion region.
