Abstract

This dissertation aims to elaborate an overview of armed conflicts and their implications for food insecurity. The complex exploration of how food becomes highly politicized and used as a political and military weapon showing how governments and armed groups use food availability and food in times of armed conflict. The concept of food insecurity will be addressed in this monograph through an interpretation of human rights, which implies ensuring the population's access to adequate food. In the specific objectives of the investigation, the aim was to show the evolution and importance of international humanitarian law in armed conflicts, acting in an expressive manner in the care given to the civilian population that, even though not directly involved in the armed conflict, suffers from the damages arising from it, of hunger to highlight the issue as an international problem of human rights violations and to verify the performance of humanitarian interventions when the state fails to protect its civilian population. Armed conflicts mark the African continent because of a series of factors that aggravate crises and affect various sectors of society, acquiring ethnic, tribal or religious characteristics. Most of these conflicts are associated with the lack of food security. Even though these resources are not the only factor in an armed conflict, they do much to help the conflict worsen. To understand the results of food insecurity during the armed conflict, we will consider Somalia as a case study.
