Variações linguísticas: um olhar curioso sobre Pernambuco

Abstract

The linguistic varieties are constituted by a series of linguistic and extralinguistic factors that give originality and multiplicity to the different speech communities (LABOV, 2008). In this context, the present study, through bibliographic research, aimed to analyze whether the academic productions (theses and dissertations) of the postgraduate programs in Letters and Linguistics of Pernambuco (Brazil), between 2016 and 2020, address research on linguistic varieties. From the survey carried out, three dissertations and a thesis were selected in which themes of interest to the field of Linguistics were found in the speech communities of Sertão do Pajeú, Belo Jardim and Recife. These studies brought results that showed the diversity of contextual and linguistic conditions that can promote the variety of speech of the analyzed communities, contributing to the recognition of its importance. In light of this, it is clear that Sociolinguistics, with questions related to linguistic varieties in Pernambuco, is a fertile ground for further studies in the area and to promote the appreciation and respect for the speech of this Brazilian federative unit.
