Abstract

This research seeks to describe the harassment and subtle constraints suffered by women journalists in the exercise of their profession in Rio Grande do Sul, as well as to identify if the silencing of many of them in the face of these harassments and constraints in the end generate marks of a form of violent communication in the theoretical conception of M. Rosenberg. Concepts of gender, identity, nonviolent communication and discourse analysis anchor this monograph and are presented mainly in Judith Butler, Pierre Bourdieu, David Gauntlett, Marshall Rosenberg and Eni Orlandi. The sample is composed of thirteen women journalists from different regions of Rio Grande do Sul. The research is qualitative in nature (Marconi and Lakatos, 1996) and is methodologically based on the semi-structured interview technique. For the analysis of the interviews, we used the technique of discourse analysis (Orlandi, 2010) allied to narrative and oral history (Portelli,1997). Among the obtained results it can be pointed out that the female silence after the violence suffered are marks of a violent communication that is repeated with other women when not confronted.
