Atribuições privativas e competências profissionais do assistente social: reflexões a partir da proteção social básica na política de assistência social

Abstract

The elderly population in eldercare institutions has become an expression of the modern society of the XXI century. This study is the result of a research carried out during the process of Supervised Internship I and II at the São Vicente de Paula Residential Care Institution between 2016 and 2017. The research was bibliographical, based on material already produced in the area and documental due to it having as a basis of analysis the field diary, institutional analysis and the final report of Internship with the data results from the project of intervention. It is qualitative in the light of the critical dialectical method, the analysis and interpretation of the data were based on the technique of content analysis. The purpose of this study was to verify the impact of the weakening of family ties of the elderly that result in residential care processes, as well as to identify how the family life experiences of the elderly influence their way of life within the residencial care institution, based on the technique of oral history. The main results of this research are the visibility of the various forms of violence that the elderly experience throughout their lives, whether in family relationships, in the job market, in the lack of access to their rights, and in the precarious survival conditions in which they develop their way and condition of life, reproduced in their daily relationships. Aspects that end up impacting directly on the aging process, especially in relation to family ties, the research identified that in the vast majority of the elderly in residential care don’t possess strong family ties, which generates a series of consequences and suffering for the elderly. The lack of family ties associated with institutionalization may entail many implications in the senior citizen phase, such as isolation, depression, stress, as well as speeding up the delimitations that may happen due to aging, that is, interfere directly in the quality of life of this person. It is understood that the insertion in a long-term institution causes the elderly to have to adapt to a new way of life respecting internal norms, thereby causing the elderly person to feel without autonomy to generate their life, since the institutional routine offers them few daily alternatives, thus making the elderly feel no optimism about the future.
